What is a Heinz bet?

A heinz is another type of multiple bet which is made up of six selections from different races or events combined into 57 bets – hence the name ‘Heinz’ derived from the Heinz slogan of 57 varieties by the famous sauce company.

It’s a staple bet for horse racing aficionados as you can have a fancy in six different races throughout the afternoon’s TV card and two or more winners will get you a return. It includes many rollover bets including a 6-fold acca (doubles, trebles etc.) where your payouts can really mount up the more winners you find.

What bets are in a Heinz?

It’s a fairly complicated wager so perhaps not one for beginners. There are a total of 57 different bets combined within the Heinz bet. Therefore, a 10p Heinz would cost you £5.70 in total, or for example, a 50p Heinz would cost £28.50 (57 x 50p) etc. These bets are broken down into the following:

  • 15 Doubles
  • 20 Trebles
  • 15 Four-folds
  • 6 Five-folds
  • 1 Six-fold accumulator

There are no singles included in the Heinz bet so you will need a minimum of two winners. If you only get a single winner then the whole bet is lost.

Is the Heinz a good bet?

The beauty of the Heinz bet is that it is a full cover multi bet that combines all possible two or more combinations into one bet. Each winner can significantly boost your returns as more winning combos are hit.

With so many different permutations even if some selections lose, other combos can still win. This gives you some level of insurance, and as with any multi bet you can also do an each way version (114 bets) which covers the place positions.

How do I place a Heinz bet?

You simply add your six selections into your betting slip and look for the multi bet options which should show the Heinz option if all your selections qualify.

The order in which you add them does not matter as they all have an equal effect but they must be from different races or events which do not overlap in any way (i.e. related contingencies).

How do I work out my Heinz bet winnings?

As there are so many individual bets within a Heinz your best bet is to use a bet calculator tool many of which can calculate complex multi bets with ease. Doing it by hand would be a palaver.

With an online Heinz calculator you just enter your winners, losers, odds, etc. and you can work out your winnings with one click. They are also useful to play around so you can see how different potential outcomes can affect your returns.
