Premier League Title Contenders

Arsenal are the team to beat. Mikel Arteta’s side won the 2025/26 title with 85 points, seven clear of Manchester City, and go into the new campaign with more managerial stability than several of their main rivals.

Our preseason team-strength work also has Arsenal at the top, followed by Manchester City. Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea make up the next group.

City remain an obvious threat but begin a new era under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure. United finished third last season and now start their first full campaign under Michael Carrick, while Liverpool and Chelsea also enter 2026/27 under new management.

The summer transfer window is now closed, so this section will be refreshed as the early-season picture develops.

The Top Four and European Race

The Champions League race could be less predictable than the title market.

Arsenal and Manchester City start near the front of our ratings, with Manchester United and Liverpool also scoring strongly. Chelsea are close behind, while Aston Villa are the obvious reminder not to treat preseason rankings as a finished league table. Villa qualified for the Champions League last season after outperforming many preseason expectations.

European qualification can also extend beyond the standard top four depending on England’s UEFA coefficient and domestic cup results, making this a section worth revisiting as the season develops.

Premier League Relegation Battle

The promoted clubs start with the biggest questions to answer.

Coventry, Ipswich, and Hull all step up from the Championship, and Betfinder’s historical work suggests that jump remains severe. Across our promotion data, the typical adjustment equates to roughly a 1.05 expected-goal-difference swing per match after moving into the Premier League.

The fixture computer hasn’t been especially kind either. Coventry open away to champions Arsenal before visiting Manchester City, while Hull begin against Manchester United and face Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle early in the campaign.

Ipswich have a slightly kinder opening on paper, but all three promoted teams begin in the bottom three of our preseason strength rankings.

That doesn’t make relegation inevitable. It does mean early prices on promoted clubs need to account for both the jump in opposition quality and their opening schedule.

Premier League Betting Markets

Premier League matches produce far more than a simple Home-Draw-Away market, but price still matters whichever bet you’re looking at.

  • 1X2: Back the home win, draw, or away win. Betfinder’s live comparison above tracks these prices across multiple bookmakers.
  • Asian handicaps: Useful where the match odds make a strong favourite difficult to back at a worthwhile price.
  • Goals markets: Over/Under 2.5 is the standard line, with alternative totals available around it.
  • Both Teams to Score: A simple Yes/No market that can suit matches where the expected scoring profile matters more than picking a winner.
  • Player markets: Goalscorer, shots, assists, cards, and other player lines become more widely available closer to kick-off.
  • Season markets: Title, European qualification, relegation, top scorer, and other futures can offer a different angle from individual matches.

Shopping around matters. A small difference on one bet doesn’t look dramatic, but repeatedly taking 2.10 instead of 2.00 is a meaningful difference over a season.

Premier League Betting Trends and Data

A few numbers are worth carrying into 2026/27.

85 points won the league last season. Arsenal finished seven points ahead of Manchester City, showing that the title threshold doesn’t always need to reach the 90-plus totals seen in some previous seasons.

Home teams scored 1.53 goals per match in 2025/26, compared with 1.22 for away teams. Home advantage still exists in the underlying scoring environment, even if it varies heavily by club and matchup.

Promotion remains a major adjustment. Our historical translation of promoted-team performance produces an average deterioration of around 1.05 expected goals in goal difference per match between Championship and Premier League level.

These are baselines, not betting systems. The useful part is watching where individual teams or bookmaker prices begin to depart materially from them.
