AFC South Betting Tips 2026: Colts Stand Out at 4.80

Indianapolis Colts quarterback featured in Betfinder’s 2026 AFC South betting preview

Our AFC South betting tips for 2026 have identified the Indianapolis Colts at 4.80 as the most interesting available price, but they remain on our watchlist rather than becoming an official Betfinder selection.

The price was available with BetMGM, Unibet, and Virgin Bet on August 1, 2026. It looks bigger than our early probability estimate suggests, although the model is not yet strong enough to support a published bet.

AFC South Betting Assessment

Team: Indianapolis Colts
Market: AFC South winner
Price checked: 4.80
Bookmakers: BetMGM, Unibet, Virgin Bet
Betfinder status: WATCH
Official stake: No bet

The difference between WATCH and BET matters. Indianapolis passes the basic price calculations, but the model remains in development and has not cleared every validation check.

AFC South Winner Probabilities

Our early projection gives Jacksonville and Houston almost identical chances of winning the division, with Indianapolis close enough to challenge.

TeamEstimated probabilityModel fair odds
Jacksonville Jaguars33.91%2.95
Houston Texans33.30%3.00
Indianapolis Colts25.51%3.92
Tennessee Titans7.28%13.74

The four probabilities total 100%.

Jacksonville is the narrow model favorite after winning the 2025 AFC South with a 13-4 record. Liam Coen and the main members of his coaching staff have returned for a second season.

Houston sits only 0.61 percentage points behind Jacksonville. Indianapolis is clearly third, but its estimated chance is still higher than the probability implied by the available price of 4.80.

Why the Colts Price Is Interesting

Decimal odds of 4.80 imply that Indianapolis has a 20.83% chance of winning the AFC South.

Our estimate is 25.51%, creating a gap of 4.68 percentage points.

Colts calculationResult
Available odds4.80
Implied probability20.83%
Model probability25.51%
Conservative probability21.69%
Model fair odds3.92
Base expected value+22.46%
Conservative expected value+4.09%

The conservative figure reduces the original probability by 15% to account for model and preseason uncertainty.

Even after that reduction, 4.80 remains slightly above the break-even price. The arithmetic supports further interest in the Colts.

It doesn’t settle the decision on its own.

What Our AFC South Projection Measures

The projection uses two main measures of team strength:

  • Recency-weighted point differential per game
  • Opponent-adjusted net EPA per play

Results from the previous three seasons are weighted 60%, 25%, and 15%, with the most recent season carrying the most influence.

The model then uses the exact 2026 regular-season schedule to simulate the division 100,000 times.

Indianapolis enters the calculation with a positive three-year point-differential rating and positive opponent-adjusted EPA. Those figures remain below Houston and Jacksonville, but they do not support treating the Colts as a distant outsider.

Why This Is Not an Official Colts Bet

The current NFL division model has shown some predictive value, but it remains unproven.

It was tested across 64 division seasons from 2018 to 2025 and correctly identified 26 winners, an accuracy rate of 40.63%.

Its Brier score of 0.7001 beat the 0.7500 score produced by assigning every team a flat 25% chance. Its log loss also beat that basic benchmark.

The catch is that its improvement was not statistically secure across the limited testing period. It also selected two fewer division winners than a simpler recency-based comparison.

The model therefore remains suitable for research and price monitoring, but not yet for an official staked selection.

The Case for Indianapolis

Daniel Jones is the main current uncertainty.

Jones tore his Achilles in December but was cleared to participate when Colts training camp opened in late July. Indianapolis also reported that he looked good during his first practice back.

That is encouraging, but returning to practice does not prove that Jones will immediately reproduce his best form throughout a full NFL season.

We have not manually increased the Colts’ probability because of his recovery. The 25.51% estimate comes from the team’s historical performance and schedule rather than optimistic training-camp reports.

That makes the price gap more interesting, but quarterback health remains one of the main reasons not to force the bet.

Jacksonville and Houston Set a High Bar

Jacksonville deserves to head the early projection.

The Jaguars won 13 games and the division in Coen’s first season as head coach. Trevor Lawrence now enters his second year in the same system rather than learning another new offense.

Houston is almost level with Jacksonville in our figures. C.J. Stroud remains the central piece of the Texans offense, while Houston has made several changes to its offensive line ahead of the new season.

The Colts do not need either rival to collapse. They do need to remain healthy and convert enough close games to stay in the race.

Why Tennessee Rates Lower

Tennessee is harder to assess.

The Titans have appointed Robert Saleh as head coach and Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator, with the new staff tasked with helping second-year quarterback Cam Ward develop.

Those changes could lead to improvement, but this version of the model does not reward coaching hires, draft narratives, or projected player development without results on the field.

Tennessee’s recent underlying performance, therefore, keeps it well behind the other three teams.

What Would Change the Colts Verdict?

Indianapolis could move closer to an official selection if:

  • Jones completes preseason without a setback
  • The starting offensive line remains healthy
  • The 4.80 price is still available near the start of the regular season
  • Further model testing supports using the probabilities for real selections
  • No major injury or roster news weakens the original case

The price could also move in the wrong direction.

At shorter than 4.00, the gap between our estimate and the market would become far less attractive. At 4.80 or bigger, Indianapolis remains the AFC South team worth monitoring.

Betfinder Take

The Colts are not our official AFC South betting tip, but 4.80 is the first live NFL price that has produced a meaningful gap against our early projection.

Jacksonville and Houston remain more likely division winners. Indianapolis is simply being offered at the more interesting price.

For now, the verdict is WATCH. No stake has been added to the Betfinder Tips Record.
