Counter-Strike 2 returns to the spotlight on August 12, when 32 teams begin the fight for a $2 million prize pool at the 2026 Esports World Cup.
The timing is good for betting interest too. IEM Cologne produced $109.3 million in Kalshi prediction-market trading, giving us a useful indication of just how much attention major CS2 events can attract.

IEM Cologne generated $109.3 million in Kalshi contract volume across 1.53 million trades and 2,956 markets.
That isn’t the same as $109.3 million being staked with traditional bookmakers. Prediction markets count contracts traded between users, so the figure shouldn’t be treated as normal sportsbook handle.
Still, it’s a big number.
Interest also climbed as the tournament reached its later stages. Stage Three accounted for $40.3 million of trading volume, with another $27.4 million traded during the playoffs.

CS2 Esports World Cup Starts August 12
The next major CS2 tournament arrives almost immediately.
The Esports World Cup runs from August 12 to August 23, with 32 teams competing for $2 million. The champions collect $600,000, while the runner-up receives $340,000.
The field is packed with familiar names.
Falcons, Spirit, FURIA, Vitality, MOUZ, Natus Vincere, G2, FaZe, Astralis, and The MongolZ are all involved.
Several other teams have had to qualify in Paris.
As of August 9, 100 Thieves, BIG, K27, and JiJieHao had qualified through the last-chance event in Paris, completing the 32-team field.
With the full field now confirmed, the outright market is easier to assess. The tournament route, map match-ups, and prices are the next things to watch.. The final qualifier and tournament route can change both a team’s chances and the price you should be willing to take.
The Format Matters More Than Usual
The tournament starts with a double-elimination group stage before moving into single-elimination playoffs.
There’s one wrinkle: the upper-bracket quarter-finals are best-of-one matches. Most other group games are best-of-three, while the Grand Final is best-of-five.
That can make a difference.
A strong favourite gets less room for error in a best-of-one. One poor map, one bad veto, or a slow start can end the match before quality has much chance to tell.
Longer series are different. If you’re betting match winners, the stronger side generally has more time to recover from losing a map.
The map pool is Cache, Dust2, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Ancient, and Anubis.
More Markets Doesn’t Always Mean Better Value
Major CS2 events give you far more to bet on than the outright winner.
